Hello, Google Ads

Google recently announced its rebrand of AdWords to Google Ads, plus the consolidation of its other advertising products into Google Marketing Platform and Google Ad Manager.

Google Ads

Officially, the message on Google Ad’s homepage is: “AdWords is now Google Ads. Our new name reflects the full range of advertising options we offer across Search, Display, YouTube, and more.” (Google Ads homepage)logo for Google Ads

Meet Google Marketing Platform

Google Marketing Platform is the integration of DoubleClick Digital Marketing and Google Analytics 360 Suite. There are solutions for small and enterprise level businesses. Similarly, Google Ad Manager integrates a variety of advertising related products. (Google AdWords Is Now Google Ads by Search Engine Journal)

What’s Different?

Sridhar Ramaswamy, Senior Vice President of Ads & Commerce at Google, said about the rebrand: “This is a primarily a name change, but it is indicative of where we have been directing the product.”

From TechCrunch: “what’s now known as AdWords will become Google Ads, which Ramaswamy said will serve as ‘the front door for advertisers to buy on all Google surfaces,’ whether that’s search, display ads, YouTube videos, app ads in Google Play, location listings in Google Maps or elsewhere.” (Google rebrands its ad lineup, with AdWords becoming Google Ads by TechCrunch)

Google Ads differs from AdWords in that it is a consolidation of all advertising across Google’s ‘surfaces’ (as Ramaswamy calls them) to make it easier to purchase advertising through Google.

Start Faster

Google is promising “a new campaign type” that makes it “easier than ever to get started with online advertising.”

“For small businesses specifically, we’re introducing a new campaign type in Google Ads that makes it easier than ever to get started with online advertising. It brings the machine learning technology of Google Ads to small businesses and helps them get results without any heavy lifting—so they can stay focused on running their businesses.” (Introducing simpler brands and solutions for advertisers and publishers by Google)

That’s a pretty vague explanation. But it just means that Google has streamlined its offerings to make advertising through its surfaces less complicated.

More Solutions for SMB

On its website, Google Ads presents the following benefits for small and mid-sized businesses:

  • Stronger collaboration with Google Marketing Platform
  • Google Ad Manager: A unified platform
  • Transparency and controls people can trust

This is another way to say that Google wants to make things simple and fast for business owners and marketers. Google Ads represents all Google advertising, so people have more options to advertise through Google. Business owners can now advertising on multiple platforms using one gateway: Google Ads.

Be Seen When It Matters

Google Ads is still an excellent avenue for small business owners to advertise.

Get in front of your customers at the exact moment that they’re looking for what you offer. Google Ads help you reach people across the Internet while they perform a search that relates to your business. This includes search, display ads, YouTube videos, app ads in Google Play, location listings in Google Maps, to name just a few.

For example, if someone searches, “Dust collection for cnc shops” and you sell dust collectors, your ad can appear at the top of Google. This is an example of using Google’s search platform to advertise.

Likewise, on YouTube your ad could play before a video that relates to your services or products.

The Right People, The Right Time

The biggest benefit of advertising with Google is that Google Ads connects you to the people who are actively searching for what you sell. This is a big deal. If you can get in front of people who want what you have, you have a much higher chance of getting the sale.

Local & Global Options

Want to advertise locally? Target cities within a set distance from your store, quickly and easily. Or target customers in specific countries outside of your own. With Google Ads, you can do both.

Use Google Ads to Grow

Google Ads is extremely versatile. Use it to get more phone calls to your store, to make more people aware of your brand, or to increase website visitors. No matter what you want to do, Google Ads can help you do it.

“According to Moz, 80% of search results now contain [Google Ads] ad placements. Furthermore, those ad placements are covering as much as 85% of the space above the fold on the results page. This doesn’t just mean that Google is making a hefty profit, it illustrates that [Google Ads] are being used by more and more advertisers. So, the only way to beat them is to join them.” (5 Reasons Your Business Should Use AdWords by Forbes)

Who Manages Your Ads?

“For mid-sized businesses, staying relevant and visible on Google search pages is a necessity for success. While staying visible on SERPs (search engine results page) organically can take years of adjustment and strategy to perfect, Google provides business with another avenue to show on search pages in the form of advertising, known as Google Ads.” (Is the Best Person Managing Your AdWords Campaign? by Artonic)

By hiring an outside agency to help with your campaign, you’re likely to save time and money. Unlike a new hire, our team is already trained and certified. We can optimize your account so you get more return on your investments.

What About Conversions?

“When running pay per click (PPC) campaigns with Google Ads, it is important to setup conversion tracking within the account. Without conversion tracking set up, you are not able to see which keywords or ads lead to a goal on the website and you cannot use this data to determine what is working effectively for your campaign. While click-through rate (CTR) and average cost per click (CPC) can be useful information in determining which keywords and ads are driving users to your website effectively, these metrics do not give any insight into what actions users are taking once they are on your website.” (Are You Using the Best Conversion for Your AdWords Campaigns? by Artonic)

Using an Ads manager lets you boost earnings by choosing the best conversions for your business.

Digital Marketing Trends: Google Ads

As noted above, Google Ads brings the machine learning technology of Google Ads to small businesses and helps them get results without any heavy lifting—so they can stay focused on running their businesses.” (Introducing simpler brands and solutions for advertisers and publishers by Google)

“Current trends with AdWords are Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning. What that means is AdWords uses different statistics and different variables to assist with how campaigns perform. This allows the system to look at past data to help improve future performance.”
