Medical Device Photography

The photos for your medical device, instruments, or packaging can be interesting and creative. One way to do this is to take a variety of photos – and not just a variety of photo subjects, but a variety of different moods and types of photos.

Medical Device Photography Tip #1 – VARIETY

View the images below. The focus is on one section of the image with the rest of image kept deliberately out of focus. The bright blue coordinates well with neutrals in gray and silver. This color combination is modern, sleek, and professional. These images are elegant and add a level of sophistication to the photography.

This is one variety of style. You’ll see more throughout this article. Keep in mind that the way you photograph something – close up, isolated, or in shadow – creates the overall mood.

Medical Device Photography Tip #2 – AUTHENTICITY

For this medical device packaging company, the photos needed to include examples of someone using the device. The device or product, in this case, is a packaging system that dispenses an implant. It was vital that we capture the device being held and used. We employed a hand model to hold and demonstrate the medical dispensing device.

To our clients, getting the image below was extremely important. Blue surgical gloves were required to add context and realism.

If you must take photos of a medical device system, be sure your client demonstrates how to properly hold and handle the device. This makes your images look authentic, which is a must in any industry.

Medical Device Photography Tip #3 – CONTEXT

Start your medical device photography with images of the entire product, to show context. This allows viewers to picture your entire offering and helps make sense of the detail shots.

In the example below, the storage container is displayed to reveal its contents. This helps people to understand the product.

Medical Device Photography Tip #7 – COLOR

Always capture images with shots of color, if possible. We were fortunate that these medical devices were brilliant shades of emerald and lime green. They looked stunning against a plain white backdrop.medical device photography medical device photography medical device photography

Website Design

In order to sell his product, our client invested in a custom website design for which the above images were taken. Our photography was used throughout the website to create a clean and thoroughly modern design. Red was used to accent the more sedate blue and white color combo.
