Fun at work is a popular topic right now – Forbes recently published Five Ways To Have More Fun At Work and PopSugar published All Work, All Play: How to Make Your Job Fun While Getting Things Done. Another great article on this topic is by CIPHER, titled, Six reasons why fun in the office is the future of work. It’s becoming clear that having fun while working is vital to being healthy. There are a lot of ways to have fun at work and stay motivated, and I’m going to share them with you today.

What is Fun At Work?

Our office, Artonic, is a great place to work; I love it. I enjoy going to work early in the morning – I’m there around 8:30 or so – and getting into the groove by opening my e-mail inbox and reading the latest messages.

Here I am, having fun at work.

“According to Bob Pike, author of The Fun Minute Manager, a fun work environment is one in which formal and informal activities occur regularly that are designed to uplift people’s spirits and remind people of their value to their managers, their organization, and to each other.” (25 Ways to Have Fun at Work by Daring to Live Fully.)

Why It’s Best to Have Fun

Having fun feels great, but if you need more reasons to have fun at work, here they are, courtesy of CIPHR:

Staying motivated is closely related to having fun, which is why I’ve included both topics in this article.

I want to have fun. It’s a beautiful life. You learn, you win, you lose, but you get up.

Staying motivated isn’t always easy, especially if you don’t enjoy your work.

Being passionate about helping others, working with like-minded teammates, and being creative are traits we all share at Artonic.

Words to Live By

Staying motivated is partly a mind game. Fill your mind with positive thoughts and affirmations to keep your head in the right place.

Some positive affirmations that I live by include:

  1. Win the Day
  2. Stay Balanced
  3. When in Doubt, Choose Love
Keep your mind filled with positive things.

Win the Day

Make this day your best day! Get up, do your best, live fully, and have fun as much as possible. Here are the key tenets of this affirmation:

  • Always do your best every single day.
  • Try to make this life thing a game on the daily.
  • Set out to win each and every day — you know what I’m sayin’?

I’ve been involved in sports my entire life. My dad is a retired coach and my wife owns and operates a dance studio. Sports and athletics have always been part of my world, that’s why I use sports analogies a lot.

Win the day!

In this case, Life is a game that you play each and every day. Treat each day as you would a game on the basketball court or your next ballet audition. Give it your all.

Just play. Have fun. Enjoy the game. (Michael Jordan)

This is closely related to Artonic’s tagline: Conquer the Web. Each day, our team at Artonic sets out to do our best for our clients. Each day is filled with surprises and challenges, but by keeping our focus on the end goal (our clients) it’s easier to achieve what we want to achieve.

Focus is important, as is the right mindset. By that I mean, keep yourself positive. Instead of looking at situations and seeing failure or negativity, see them as opportunities to grow.

Stay Balanced

Balance is essential to lots of things – including web design… and life! Staying balanced means to avoid excess in all things. In web design, this means the design must also work for the people using it. In life, staying balanced means to avoid overwork or indulgence.

A lot of the times our team will work together on a task, like setting up our video studio. Staying balanced means having fun and getting the job done, too.

When in Doubt, Choose Love

There are times when I encounter a situation that causes me to feel frustrated, angry, or disappointed. Rather than allowing negative thoughts or energy to enter my body and mind, I attempt to choose love over all other feelings in an effort keep body, mind, and energy in a positive place.

Get your team to laugh.

Keep laughing at the challenges life throws your way, so you can stay motivated during work. When frustration threatens to overwhelm you, find a healthy way to let it go.

You must enjoy the journey because whether or not you get there, you must have fun on the way. (Kalpana Chawla)

Artonic Has Fun At Work

Many members of our team have pets and bring them into the office. This is a great way for us to relax and get to know each other better.

We also go out together as a team for birthdays, first days, or special events.

We make sure not to take ourselves too seriously, even during meetings.

As a team, we play games. Our Marketing Manager, Angela, makes sure we have fun at least once a week.

Families are very important to us, so we make sure to include them whenever we can.
